Previously we gave you some of the best eats in San Antonio, but everyone knows you should wash down a great meal with a great drink.
As thriving of a foodie culture as San Antonio has, the nightlife is just as great. From high end bars to hole in the walls that will soon be a favorite, there are plenty of places to keep the drinks flowing.
No matter what kind of drinker you are, San Antonio has got something to cater to you. And one of the best things about a night on the town in San Antonio is that it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to have a good time. Plenty of places offer affordable, yet delicious, options.
If you’re a beer drinker, you can check one (or all) of the dozens of breweries San Antonio has got. Many of the breweries offer award-winning brews sure to satiate your palate. Or if you want to try something upscale, some of San Antonio’s newest downtown cocktail bars offer a sophisticated experience and gorgeous views.
Head to the St. Mary’s Strip for a good bar hop or take a trip up to La Cantera to visit the smallest margarita hut for a flight with some classic San Antonio flavors.
There is something for everyone!
There are a lot of places all over the Alamo City, so we will start with where you should try in the downtown area!
For the whiskey drinker: Try out Maverick Whiskey for a dose of history with your drinks. Samuel Maverick, the distillery’s namesake, was one of San Antonio’s most influential historical figures and when his great-great-great grandson discovered his ancestor’s famous whiskey recipe he revitalized it. Patrons can get a tour of the distillery and learn the history while sipping on some whiskey concoctions. They even have a mixologist so if you don’t totally know what you want to drink they can help you out.
For the hole in the wall: El Luchador is one of the coolest places. Not only does it has cheap drinks and plenty of locals, it is a luchador-themed bar (if you couldn’t tell by the name). The backwall is made up of old luchador masks, making it a super unique place to chill with a drink.
For the upscale drinker: If you want a pricey place to go, try Sternewirth at the Pearl. Located inside Hotel Emma, Sternewirth oozes sophistication and you will feel like you are living your bougie life when you sit down in front of the giant fireplace with your expensive cocktail. Don’t worry, even though it is a high-price tag, the drinks are well worth it. I recommend the Three Emmas if you go!
For the best views: No questions asked, one of San Antonio’s newcomer’s The Moon’s Daughters offers patrons the best view of the city. Sitting on top the new Thompson Hotel, the large balcony gives 180-degree views of downtown San Antonio. And with some great cocktails and snacks to accompany the view, it is an awesome place to go treat yourself (or someone else) to a gorgeous experience.
For an intimate spot: With the dark wood walls, low lights and cozy candles on every table the Esquire Tavern is a great spot if you are looking for a bit of ambiance. But the handcrafted cocktails and yummy food makes it a great date night, especially since you can step outside and stroll the Riverwalk for dessert.
For some of the best wine: Always a local favorite, Little Death is a go-to for wine drinkers. Located on the St. Mary’s Strip, Little Death is small but mighty. With indoor and outdoor space, it is a great eclectic vibe and even better wine. Try a glass recommended by the super friendly employees or you can buy one of their hundreds of bottles to open there and enjoy. The best part is that it is surrounded by delicious food options so you can grab something and bring it back to your table while you drink.
For the best brewery: Don’t worry if you aren’t a cocktail person, San Antonio has tons of breweries to try. The competition for the top spot is fierce, but in our opinion, it is a tie between Roadmap Brewing Co. and Kunstler Brewing. Both have a great rotation of beers brewed in-house and an awesomely chill vibe. The breweries have a large selection (without being too much) with different kinds of beer to choose from and we’ve never had a bad beer. People there are friendly, and both have food options to help soak up that beer.
And don’t worry, we promise not to judge if you want to try them all.
